On Posterous, Tumblr, and Delicious
I've been using Delicious for five years now, and Tumblr for more than two. I like to think that they're my online bookmarks: tech stuff and tutorials for the former, design and videos for the latter. The truth is, however, they're more like braindumps. I often bookmark something, thinking I'll go back later, but that rarely happens.
The Problem: It takes me a long time to search for something in my own Tumblr, because I never tagged anything (no fault of Tumblr). And my Delicious library is so full of junk (five years is a long time), I don't even want to look at it.
The Solution: I've been using Posterous for a week now, and I'm loving it. I love that I can post through gmail. I love that you can have more than one photo in a post. With these two facts combined, I love how I can just drag-drop images into my gmail client and send it out. So, starting today, I will no longer be updating my Delicious and Tumblr accounts. Everything I see that's bookmark-worthy will go up here. The standard here will be even higher than that of my Tumblr (which was already higher than that of Delicious).
Obviously, I do not want to import all my Delicious and Tumblr junk to this account. I went through my Tumblr, chose the best ones, and back-filled them before my "first post." Any posts with substantial content by yours truly (like this one) will be tagged with my name.
In the meantime, I'll keep my Tumblr and Delicious accounts up, but I do plan to take them down in the near future.
That is all.
For the two of you out there that care.
